Repeat energy audit at Chinfon Cement in 2022

Project report from 2022. Figures, proposed measures and the 2020 reference document are retained in their original context; equipment proposals need assessment against the actual system conditions.

At the time of this project report, Chinfon Cement was described as one of Vietnam's leading cement producers, with two high-capacity production lines and an effective foreign-invested operation. Alongside production capacity, the company invested in environmental management and energy-saving programmes.

With an investment of USD 20.5 million, Chinfon installed a system that uses waste heat from cement production to generate electricity. Its design generating capacity was 12.8 MW. The original report described it as one of the first and largest cement-plant waste-heat power systems in Vietnam in 2014. 

Energy-saving measures already implemented

Chinfon used a three-year energy-audit cycle to review energy-consuming systems and energy accounting. The report described the following measures already being implemented:

1. Gradually replacing high-pressure sodium and mercury lamps with LEDs.
2. Using daylight in production buildings and warehouses.
3. Recovering waste heat to generate electricity for production.
4. Shifting suitable electricity consumption from peak to off-peak periods.
5. Installing variable-speed drives on conveyor motors and large fans.
6. Regularly inspecting and controlling compressed-air leaks at quick-connect fittings.
7. Setting air conditioning to 26°C or above under the project approach.
8. Specifying modern, efficient equipment from the outset, under management's purchasing direction.

Recommendations from the 2022 audit

In its 2022 energy audit, ITVC Global proposed the following energy-saving measures:

1. Establish an energy management system based on ISO 50001:2018.
2. Replace 36 W T8 fluorescent lamps with 18 W T8 LED tubes.
3. Replace 250 W high-pressure sodium lamps with 150 W LED luminaires.
4. Replace 250 W mercury lamps with 150 W LED luminaires.
